Custom Crochet Design

A few weeks ago I designed some "Hello Kitty" inspired baby shoes and began selling the pattern online. As sometimes happens, someone saw the pattern for sale and asked me to make the booties for them, along with a coordinating "Hello Kitty" hat, which I hadn't yet designed. I agreed and so here is my latest...custom- designed...baby hat. :)
Holland really likes it, I know, because while I was trying to sew the hello kitty face on the hat, she kept saying
"Meow! Kitty!" and trying to grab it! :)

Holland Unedited

I bought some elastic thread a while ago and finally got around to designing a crocheted headband today. The stitches are worked over the elastic to make the headband stretchy and help it stay on little heads.
I tried to get some nice pics of Holland modeling it and managed okay though she didn't want to sit still. I thought I'd be clever and give her something to be distracted with. I had another little crocheted flower nearby and gave it to her. This picture shows exactly what she proceeded to do with it! This was the clearest photo I was able to get and completely unusable! :) lol Kids!

Green Thumb

Holland takes after her Opa - she is an avid gardener (for a 15 month old!) Today I let her play out in the backyard and she was so busy pulling up weeds, eating tomatoes, emptying a pot of soil, and of course, eating DIRT! :) What fun she had. :) If only Opa had been here to see her!

Chubby Feet

Has anyone else had this problem? I can never find shoes to fit Holland! Her feet must be a little wider than normal and
nothing fits her! I've given up trying to squeeze her feet into shoes that just don't fit. Since she's been walking since 9 months she definitely needs shoes, especially now that it's Winter here in NZ. It is common here to see kids in the "shops" walking around with no shoes on, but I just don't think that's acceptable. :)
So, fortunately, I can make her shoes that do fit! :)
Here is her latest pair, crocheted in worsted weight cotton. These are quick and easy to make. I intend to put suede soles on these and make her a few more pair in different colors.

Lil' Helper

While Oma was here visiting, she kept asking me, "What are you going to design today? What are you going to make today?" and I kept saying..."I don't know!" So much pressure! lol
Anyhow, here is my latest design, (as requested b
y Deb), my "Lil' Cupcake Baby Hat" which coordinates with my "Lil' Cupcake Baby Shoes." Pattern includes sizes newborn to 1-3 years.
I made the sample hat size 0-6 mos, so too small for Holland to model. I modeled it on her baby doll instead and Holland "helped" me with the photo shoot. She kept taking the hat off her baby. :)

Bye-Bye

Holland said "bye-bye" to her Opa and Oma at Auckland airport today. They are on their way back to enjoy summer on their houseboat in the Netherlands. Holland enjoyed their visit especially and will miss them very, very much! "Bye, bye, Opa & Oma!"

Baby Hedgehog

Yesterday I crocheted this cute little guy. His "spines" are easy to make and are similar to what I did on my Calendar Baby Bear Hat. I thought of letting Holland keep him as a toy, but she kept saying "no" and throwing him on the ground, so I took that to mean she didn't like him. :) Though she did try to feed him crackers at one point. :)

So, I put him up for sale on Etsy and he is now on his way to live with a new family in Italy. A man bought it for his wife who just happens to collect hedgehogs (no, not real ones of course!)

Lil' Cupcake

Today I crocheted some cute baby shoes with cupcakes at the toes. :)
This design idea has been playing around in my head for a while and finally I was able to "set hook to yarn" and make them up.
They do look rather scrumptious, if I do say so myself. :)
Time to put the crochet hook away and go find a snack!

Holland's Opa & Oma

We've been enjoying a lovely visit from my husband's parents this weekend. They have come all the way from the Netherlands to see us. It is a real homecoming for them as they have been living in Europe for the past 7 years, but lived in New Zealand for 30 years before that! They leave today to visit other family and friends, but will come back to spend another weekend with us in Auckland before flying home.
Opa gave Holland a pair of little Dutch clogs (Klompen) which she enjoys dancing around in or carrying around the house. She also spent some time outside weeding the garden with Oma.
I've been too busy with guests to do much crocheting of late, but am excited to say I've received my "slipper swap" partner, so look forward to designing some new ladies ballet flats for her. :)
